Mirosław Czekaj is the new president of BGK. Who is he?

Prime Minister Donald Tusk appointed Mirosław Czekaj as the president of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. In recent years, Czekaj served as treasurer of the Capital City of Warsaw, where he was responsible, among others, for financial policy, economy and cooperation with financial institutions. Marta Postuła became the first vice-president of BGK.

Mirosław Czekaj – who is he, professional experience

According to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Mirosław Czekaj served as treasurer of the capital city from 2007 to April 2024. Warsaw, where he was responsible, among others, for for the economy and financial policy, cooperation with international financial institutions, banks, rating agencies and auditors.

From 2009 to 2016, he served as vice-chairman of the supervisory board of PKO Bank Polski and chairman of the Audit Committee in this bank. He was also the chairman or member of supervisory boards many times.

In the years 2004-2006, Czekaj was vice-president of BGK, supervising the bank's commercial activities, cooperation with commercial clients and local governments, as well as management of the branch network. In 1996-1997 he sat on the supervisory board of Pomorski Bank Kredytowy in Szczecin.

Marta Postuła is the new vice-president of BGK

Marta Postuła – first vice-president of BGK – worked at the Ministry of Finance in 1999-2016. From 2020 to 2024, she was the head of the Department of Finance and Accounting at the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw. In the years 2016-2023, she served as the director of the University of Warsaw Entrepreneurship Center.

For the last three years, she also served as an advisor to the management board for sustainable development of the Management Board of Dom Maklerski Bank Ochrony Środowiska. In the years 2016-2022, she was the director of the issuer cooperation department in this company.

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego is a Polish development bank. The State Treasury is a hundred percent shareholder of BGK. The bank is part of the Polish Development Fund. One of BGK's strategic tasks is to support the development of Polish enterprises both domestically and internationally.
