Media: Russia was to use Serbian saboteurs pretending to be football fans to destabilize the situation in Chisinau

On Monday Moldovan President Mai Sandu said that Russia has a plan to overthrow the country’s pro-Western authorities.

A day later, Andrian Cheptonar, a member of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) in the country, was quoted by the media as saying that Russia planned to use saboteurs from Serbia to destabilize the situation in Chisinau.

The deputy specified that sabotage operations were to be carried out by properly trained Serbs who intended to come to Moldova pretending to be Partizan Belgrade fans. Officially, they were to appear in the Moldovan capital as fans of the Serbian club, which will play a match against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Conference League on Thursday at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau.

The organizers of the meeting confirmed on Tuesday that the match would be held without spectators for security reasons.

Cheptonar revealed that the Moldovan Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), which received information about the planned activities of pro-Russian subversives, was the reason for the cancellation of the fans’ participation in this match.
