“The National Army will conduct on the training grounds multinational exercise “Fire Shield 2024” on August 5-23. The exercises, in which Moldovan, Romanian and American soldiers will take part, aim to develop operational capabilities and increase interoperability of participating personnel,” it was written.
As emphasized, the maneuvers will involve military-technical units, as well as artillery systems used in the Moldovan army.
The plans for the “Fire Shield” exercise assume the activity of troops on training grounds located exclusively on the territory of Moldova. This means that soldiers will appear in close proximity to Russian military bases located in the unrecognized republic Transnistria. Officially, there are about a thousand soldiers stationed on the territorywhose task is to “ensure the conduct of peacekeeping operations and protect military warehouses.”

Information about joint military exercises of the Moldovan and US troops immediately was criticized by Russian politicians. Representatives of the authorities in Moscow They do not hide their ambitions in the region and have been actively working to support pro-Russian forces in Moldova for many years.
The current policy of the authorities in Chişinău was expressed, among others, by: Dmitry Medvedev. Ex-president Russia in a post on social media he stated that Moldovan authorities are following an anti-Russian pathwhich may ultimately lead to “sharing the fate Ukraine“.
“All these are links in one chain: the fascism of the country and the creation of an atmosphere of hatred in society. Who would have thought of it (…) It all results from playing with history. Don't play with it thoughtlessly, so that it doesn't end in a new war. Or maybe Moldova really wants to share Ukraine's fate?” – asked the politician.
