During Friday's session on the hill, it was very windy and snowing. The hill for the training itself was well prepared and it was safe to jump on it. Unfortunately, this was changing by the minute. The fresh, soft snow was piling up, and the snow underneath was turning to ice. The conditions were very difficult, but training continued.

Falls of Zniszczoł and Wolny during training in Zakopane. I ended up with plasters and scratches

The jumpers tried to be careful, but this was not possible in every attempt. Unfortunately, Aleksander Zniszczoł and Jakub Wolny had serious falls when landing. – These were two falls from our team, but players from other groups, including the junior group, also had problems and falls – revealed Thomas Thurnbichler.

– When I move my head, I still feel the fall – laughed Aleksander Zniszczoł. – I hit my head and on the first jump on Saturday I was a little stressed. Today the hill was well prepared and only the wind bothered us. I didn't cut anything on Friday, so there was no doubt about starting. My whole body is simply stretched, and there was no thought of letting go of anything – added the jumper. – There were difficult conditions, loose snow and it was difficult to get off the landing. It was my mistake combined with the conditions – Jakub Wolny explained his fall.

In Wolny's case, the remnant of what happened on Friday was a beard covered with plaster. – There are stitches. I'm glad that I jumped at all in the Polish championships – said the jumper. He had to go to the hospital to get stitches on the cut caused by the fall. Although everything apparently happened quickly and efficiently, on Saturday he experienced other consequences of the fall. – Because the beard is the least of your problems. I was very sore overall after hitting my head hard. I had no doubts to start and I think I made some good jumps. However, the coaches gave me the option that if I don't feel OK, I may not play. Yesterday I felt bad, but today I felt better and I finally made the decision – said Wolny.

Thurnbichler was afraid of more serious injuries to the Poles. “The falls looked terrible.”

Thomas Thurnbichler thought that in the case of Free and Ruinous it would not end with just scratches. – I was afraid something more serious had happened because both falls looked terrible. We were lucky that it ended the way it did, said the coach.

The Austrian also pointed out another possible reason for the falls of Polish players. – Our skis are adapted to ice tracks. Therefore, their polished surface often cracks on fresh, especially dry snow. We also need to discuss this with the International Ski Federation (FIS) to finally start avoiding this type of stupid falls. They create the greatest speed and danger for the athlete, said Thurnbichler.

In Saturday's Polish Championships on Wielka Krokiew, Freestyle took third place and won the bronze medal. Only Paweł Wąsek and Kamil Stoch overtook him. Aleksander Zniszczoł was fourth, and after a good second jump he was only 2.7 points short of the podium.

Both Wolny and Zniszczoł already have a certain place in the Polish squad for the World Cup competition in Zakopane. Dawid Kubacki and Paweł Wąsek will also appear. Kamil Stoch and Piotr Żyła are the closest to the fifth and last place among those called up for the competition on January 17-19. Thomas Thurnbichler will decide who he will field in the World Cup next week. Live coverage of the competition on Sport.pl, and broadcasts on Eurosport, on the Max platform and on Polish Television.
