During the virtual Summit for Democracy organized by the US authorities, Montenegrin President Milo Dziukanović stated that Serbia is trying to do in the Balkans what Russia is doing in its neighbourhood. The politician also commented on the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Balkans.

– In the Balkans, we face an attempt to create a Serbian world modeled on the Ruthenian Mir. It pushes Serbia to interfere in the affairs of its neighbors. Belgrade tries to rule Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina or North Macedonia, assessed the Montenegrin president.

“Unfortunately, this approach has not met with an appropriate response from our Western partners so far,” Dziukanovic said. “I think they correctly diagnosed what he was doing Russiabut they miss the fact that Serbia is trying to do the same, albeit on a smaller scale, of course, in the Balkans, he added.

The politician also commented on the impact war in Ukraine to the Balkans.

– Russian invasion on Ukraine is very clearly reflected in the Western Balkans. The influence of Russia appeared here much earlier. Since 2014, the Kremlin wants to change the region’s pro-European and pro-Atlantic course, warned the Montenegrin president.
