Near Morąg in Warmia and Mazury, two men drove into the forest, left bags full of garbage, and then drove away. They did not realize, however, that they were being recorded. Thanks to the recording from the forest guard's camera, it was possible to establish their personal details.
As reported on social media by the Dobrocin Forest District, “the incident took place on September 9 in the evening.”
“In one of the forest districts, a camera recorded a passenger car from which two bags full of waste were quickly thrown into the forest. Thanks to the visible license plates, forest guards identified the perpetrators, who were fined a total of one and a half thousand złoty,” the foresters reported.
Harsh consequences
The passenger and driver were issued tickets for leaving trash. Additionally, the driver was issued a ticket for entering the forest.
The guards remind that “forest guards may impose a fine of PLN 500 for littering the forest, and up to PLN 500 for illegal entry into the forest.”
“However, if the case goes to court, a fine of up to PLN 5,000 may be imposed for each offence committed,” the Dobrocin Forest District added in a statement.
The problem of littered forests
Foresters do not hide the fact that the cameras installed in the forest not only monitor the tree stands of the Dobrocin Forest District, but also help detect perpetrators of forest damage.
In 2023, forest clearing cost the Dobrocin Forest District over PLN 50,000, and this year it is already over PLN 55,000.
