Moscow. Utilities: anti-aircraft systems are deployed on the roofs of buildings in the Russian capital

Pancyr S-1 anti-aircraft systems are deployed on the roofs of buildings in Moscow, the Ukrainian Dialog portal reported on Thursday, citing reports and photos published in Russian social media. The system appeared, among others, on the building of the Ministry of Defence. The reason for these actions is unknown.

The photos show, among others, Pancyr-S1 systems installed on the roof of one of the office buildings with the help of a crane. As we read in the “Dialog” portal, users of Russian Telegram channels are surprised that elements of anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense are so openly deployed in the capital Russiawhile on Ukraine information on the dislocation of these armaments remains classified.

Pancyr-S1 is an anti-aircraft rocket artillery system. It was equipped with the Russian army in the 1990s. It consists of two double-barreled 30 mm automatic cannons and 12 anti-aircraft missiles. The Russians advertised it as equipment effective in combating drones.

On Monday, Radio Svoboda reported from Russian independent media and Telegram channels that S-400 anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems were deployed in several places in Moscow. The city authorities and the Ministry of Defense have not previously made any announcements that such actions are planned.

On December 31, the last day of 2022, the Ukrainian portal “UNIAN” reported via Russian media that almost two thousand missile defense troops were to be on duty in Moscow on New Year’s Eve. In the first days of the new year, until the Eastern Rite Christmas on January 7, it was planned to call a total of about 20,000 military personnel on duty in the Russian capital.
