A mom and her youngster have died after being caught in an avalanche in northern Finland, after temperatures dropped to -20C and the wind blew their skis away, police have mentioned.

The girl, who has not been named, was discovered on Tuesday at 10pm native time, buried in an avalanche within the Pyhakuru Valley in Finnish Lapland, near the border with Sweden.
