What began out as a Parks and Recreation bit a few group of women gathering for an annual breakfast on Feb. 13 has advanced into Galentine’s Day, a real-life custom for gal buddies to honor their unbreakable bond. As Amy Poehler‘s Leslie Knope explains on the episode of the NBC comedy: “Women celebrating women. It is like Lilith Truthful, minus the angst.”

And in contrast to Valentine’s Day—which is usually geared towards {couples}—the vacation will be loved by singletons and people who are in a relationship alike.

Whereas detailing the origin story of Galentine’s Day in 2019, sequence co-creator Michael Schur stated the yearly custom was dreamed as much as “remove the romantic side” of Valentine’s Day “as a result of it is exclusionary to individuals who aren’t in romances.

“The thought happened as a result of the present was all the time pitched as a present about feminine friendship,” Schur told LAist in 2019, including that there beforehand wasn’t an official day “put aside the place we simply rejoice friendships, particularly feminine friendships.”
