On Tuesday, Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun was charged with, among other things, insulting a group of people on the premises of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland on religious grounds. This involves extinguishing Hanukkah candles in the Sejm with a fire extinguisher.

“On April 9 this year, during an investigation conducted at the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, Grzegorz B., a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, was charged.” – said Szymon Banna, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw.

He explained that the charges concern insulting a group of people on the premises of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland on religious grounds (extinguishing Hanukkah candles with a fire extinguisher), as well as violating the physical integrity of Łukasz Szumowski in connection with the performance of his official duties and the use of physical violence in order to force him to behave in a certain way; slandering Łukasz Szumowski via mass media that he was under the influence of alcohol, which could have humiliated him in public opinion; damage to the Christmas tree, damage to the sound equipment, violation of home peace by not leaving the German Historical Institute.

“The suspect did not confess to the acts he was accused of and refused to provide explanations,” added prosecutor Banna.

On January 17, the Sejm waived, at the request of the District Prosecutor's Office, the immunity of the Confederation MP.
