Homicide suspect arrested 9 years after North Carolina school pupil Religion Hedgepeth killing

A 28-year-old North Carolina man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Thursday, 9 years after the cold case killing of a University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill pupil. 

UNC sophomore Religion Hedgepeth, 19, was discovered fatally overwhelmed and presumably raped in her off-campus house in September 2012. She was bare from the waist down and propped up in opposition to her mattress in a pool of blood, in accordance with FOX 8 in Excessive Level, North Carolina. 

A notice that stated “I’m not silly b—- jealous” was discovered close to her physique.

He was booked into the Durham County jail with out bond. 

Officers haven’t given a motive for the homicide. 

“I didn’t do something however cry and thank God and reward God,” Hedgepeth’s mom Connie stated after his arrest. “After I cried, it was tears of pleasure, tears of reduction understanding that somebody had been arrested within the case.”

Salguero-Olivares’ DNA matched some collected by means of semen discovered on the crime scene and a composite description made solely by means of the DNA, FOX 8 reported.

“This investigation is just not full. Our work is just not carried out,” Lehew stated, in accordance with The Hill. “We’ll proceed to work this case till each lead has been extinguished and any events which have a task in or information of this tragedy are dropped at justice.”
