The mushroom picking season is in full swing, so it is worth remembering that carefree mushroom picking can cost you a lot. For breaking the regulations, you can get a fine of up to PLN 500, and for collecting protected species, the court may impose a fine of PLN 5,000.
In Poland, mushroom picking is legal and free. It is different in other countries – in Germany you can only harvest a certain amount of mushrooms. The forest guards treat more abundant mushroom picking as the use of natural resources for commercial purposes, and without a permit, this may result in penalties of up to thousands of euros.
Italy has strict rules on mushroom picking – you can be punished for picking mushrooms at night, for exceeding the harvest limit, and even for the fact that the basket is not aired. To pick mushrooms, you need to buy a special permit, costing around 30 euros a year.
There are no such requirements in Poland, but when picking mushrooms, you should remember to follow certain rules, because breaking them is punishable by fines in the amount of PLN 500 or fines up to PLN 5,000 imposed by the court. zlotys.
Penalty of PLN 5,000 for picking protected mushrooms
The highest fine that can be imposed is 5,000. zlotys for picking mushrooms that are under protection. According to the 2014 ordinance, 232 species are listed. Such a high penalty may be imposed by the court. A forest or city guard can punish us with a mandate at most.
Mushroom picking – tickets
A fine of up to PLN 500 may be imposed for picking mushrooms in places where entry is prohibited. The following forests are permanently prohibited: forest crops up to 4 m high, experimental plots and seed stands, animal refuges, springs of rivers and streams or areas endangered by erosion. Mushrooms must not be collected in protected areas: in reserves and national parks. It is strictly forbidden to enter military areas.
A periodic ban on access to the forest owned by the State Treasury may also be introduced, when: there has been destruction or significant damage to the stands or undergrowth degradation, there is a high fire hazard, and economic activities related to breeding, forest protection or timber harvesting are carried out.
It should also be remembered that the owner of a forest that is not owned by the State Treasury may prohibit entry, marking the forest with a sign with the appropriate inscription.
A fine may be imposed on those who remove the litter in the forest and destroy the fungi or mycelium.
You can also get a fine for littering the forest, destroying bird breeding grounds or nests, burrows and anthills, injuring or killing a wild animal outside of activities related to hunting or forest protection, as well as letting the dog loose.
When going to the forest, leave the car in a place marked as a parking lot or a parking space. The car cannot be left in front of the barriers and on the roadsides, even if they are road legal. Such an action may make their use difficult.
For persistent or gross violations of the above regulations, the guards may bring the case to court, and then the costs of illegal mushroom picking can reach up to PLN 5,000. zloty.
