A 31-year-old man who kicked a cat sitting in front of a store last year in Myszyniec near Ostrołęka will go to prison for a year. The court also ordered him to pay compensation to an animal protection organization.

We reported about the incident on tvnwarszawa.pl in July last year. After leaving the store, the 31-year-old violently kicked a cat belonging to the store owner sitting in the parking lot.. After the incident, he got into the car and – as a passenger – drove away.

As Tomasz Żerański, spokesman for the Ostrołęka police, reported at the time, the force of the impact was so great that the animal fell several meters away. As a result of the kick, the cat suffered serious injuries, including numerous fractures and partial loss of vision.

A video of the event appeared on the Internet. This made it easier to arrest the suspect. The 31-year-old was charged with animal cruelty.

A year of absolute imprisonment

On Thursday, the spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrołęka, Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz, announced the verdict against the 31-year-old.

“On September 14, 2023, the court issued a judgment by which it found the accused guilty of abusing an animal on July 4, 2022, around 6 p.m. in the town of Myszyniec, on Plac Wolności Street next to the Groszek store, by kicking it with great force. cat, as a result of which the cat suffered loss of vision in the left eye, paresis of the back of the body, abdominal pain and increased intraocular pressure,” Łukasiewicz told us. – The court sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment for the crime assigned to the accused – she added.

In addition, the court banned the 31-year-old from owning any animals for a period of three years and ordered him to pay a fine of PLN 2,000 to the National Society for the Protection of Animals “OTOZ Animals”.

The judgment is not final. Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz said that the prosecutor’s office would not appeal against the verdict.
