The incident occurred on Tuesday (November 19) around 12.30 at the intersection of Podgórna and Hallera streets in Nakło nad Notecią. The police received a report about a pedestrian being hit by a car.
“The driver of an Opel driving along Hallera Street, while turning into Podgórna Street, did not give way to a pedestrian on the road,” said the District Police Headquarters in Nakło nad Notecią.

The recording published by the police shows that at the time of the incident the woman was already on the road, and by entering it she did not pose a safety threat or impede vehicle traffic.
What do the regulations say?
Article 13 of the Road Traffic Act indicates that the pedestrian had the right to cross the road in the place where the incident occurred. This situation is described in paragraph 2: “Crossing the road or cycleway outside a pedestrian crossing is permitted at a suggested crossing or outside a suggested crossing if the distance from the pedestrian crossing exceeds 100 m. However, if the intersection is less than 100 meters from designated pedestrian crossing, crossing is also permitted at this intersection.
According to the police, crossing the road in this place is possible after meeting the appropriate conditions set out in section 3, which states that “crossing the road or bicycle path outside the pedestrian crossing referred to in section 2 is allowed only on the condition that it does not endanger traffic safety or impede vehicle traffic. Pedestrians are obliged to give way to vehicles and walk perpendicularly to the opposite edge of the road or bicycle path. to the axle of the road or bicycles.
The officers explain that in this situation the driver was obliged to give way to the pedestrian. This is described in Article 26, paragraph 2 of the Road Traffic Law: “The driver of a vehicle that turns onto a cross road is obliged to give way to a pedestrian crossing the road on which he is entering at the intersection.”
