In Namibia, a lioness was shot in the Hoanib River in the Kunene region, which before the weekend bit to the death of the well -known Namibian researcher of these animals and a businessman.
On Friday, the lioness attacked 59-year-old Bernd Kebbel, who was camping on the Hoanib River, who left the tent on the roof of his car at night. His wife and other tourists with a scream frightened the animal, which, however, managed to inflict fatal wounds to the man. It was too late to help.
Bernd Kebbel was a defender and researcher of rare desert lions in the country.
The lioness was shot. “The Ministry confirms”
“The ministry confirms that the lonely lioness was shot on Sunday. This decision was the result of continuous monitoring by the ministry's staff, which showed that the animal (…) was a threat to both community members and tourists,” the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Ndeshipand Hamunael wrote in a statement on Monday.
The area around the Hoanib River, although desert, are one of the most attractive places of Namibia. On the one hand, there is the famous coast of skeletons with over a thousand ships of ships, on the other – one of the world's largest ethosha national parks. The desert itself is inhabited by elephant, lions, giraffes, leopards, black rhinos and oryxes adapted to its harsh conditions.
