Photography of the Milky Way taken by the Polish woman received the title of astronomical photo of the day awarded by NASA. The shot was created in Hawaii. As the author of the frame Marzena RogoziĆska explained, astrophotography requires a lot of patience, but the end result is worth working.
Photography, whose author is Marzena RogoziĆska, received the title of astronomical photo of the day (Apod, Astronomy Picture of the Day) on May 20. The frame was captured at the end of February in Hawaii, near the astronomical observatory at the top of the Mune Kea volcano. The author explained that this is one of the best places on Earth to observe the night sky.
– It is there, at an altitude of 4207 meters above sea level, there is a complex of 13 powerful telescopes, known as Mauna Kea Observatories. My photo was created at the foot of the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter Telescope. It presents the central part of the Milky Way and the RHO Ophiuchi area, a region full of nebulae of reflective, dark clouds of dust and intensive H -alpha emission – she described. H-alfa emissions are associated with a change in energy level in a hydrogen atom electrons.

In search of a dark sky
– Astrophotography is my passion, which I have been developing for over five years, although fascination cosmos It has always accompanied me. In search of a dark sky and unique phenomena, I travel hundreds of kilometers, both in Poland and abroad. I have already photographed the Milky Way from the south of Europe, northern lights From the far north and a total solar eclipse in the USA – she said.
She explained that in astrophotography she uses both a telescope, to photograph the objects of a deep sky, such as nebulae and galaxiesas well as a camera with lenses, which are recorded by wide frames with a milk road, comets, auroras or eclipse of sun on the background of picturesque landscapes.
This is the second photo by Marzena RogoziĆska, which was honored with the title of Apod NASA. In August 2021, this distinction fell as a photograph showing a trace of the Perseid swarm, made in Busko-ZdrĂłj.
“Connection of science and art”
Photos taken by Marzena RogoziĆska are published in Polish astronomical magazines, and now they can also be seen at the exhibition at the Palace in Miechowice in Bytom. The author also conducts thematic classes for children and adolescents, and also appears as an expert during events popularizing astronomy and astrophotography. Every day he works as a psychologist and teacher at Primary School No. 45 and at the General Ballet School in Bytom.
– Astrophotography is more than a technique for me, it is a unique combination of science and art. It combines the precision of observation with the beauty of the cosmos and allows you to keep in the photo what is often invisible to the naked eye. It is a passion that inspires, teaches patience and allows you to look at the sky from a completely different perspective – she concluded.
