The Scientific and Academic Computer Network (NASK) submitted a notification to the National Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw on the suspicion that former Minister of Digitization Janusz Cieszyński may have committed a crime, the company announced on Friday. It was added that it was possible to cause property damage in the amount of over PLN 750,000.
According to the Scientific and Academic Computer Network (NASK), the company conducted an assessment of the conduct of former members of the management staff. The study included, among others: source documents as well as NASK's regulations and internal documentation. “During these activities, irregularities in the company's operation were identified,” it was emphasized.
“Unfavorable disposal of property”
NASK reported that as a result of these activities, “potential abuses were detected, probably caused by former employees of the management staff of NASK SA”.
The company reported that the collected material was the basis for submitting a notification to the National Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw on October 23 about the suspicion of committing a crime involving, among others, “on taking actions leading to unfavorable disposal of property by NASK SA to former Minister Janusz Cieszyński and on actions or omissions contrary to the obligations of individual persons, which may result in causing significant property damage to NASK SA in the amount of up to PLN 750,601.54.”
Former minister talks about “political fight”
Janusz Cieszyński asked by PAP to comment on the case, he said he “knew nothing” about the notification to the prosecutor's office. After highlighting the issue, he assessed that it may be related to the fact that two weeks ago he had sent questions to NASK as part of a parliamentary inspection regarding the activities of NASK director Radosław Nielek. – I wanted to ask if he has a security clearance. Mr. Nielek is facing accusations of unclear connections with China. If there are any reports to the prosecutor's office immediately after my questions, I think there is no case here and we are dealing with a political fight, he said. PiS MP.
NASK announces that it will draw conclusions
Janusz Cieszyński served as Minister of Digitization from April 6 to November 27, 2023. Currently, he is an MP of the PiS club. NASK emphasized that the assessment of the material collected during the inspection was made by a law firm, without any interference from the company. “The conclusions from the inspection will be used to introduce regulations at NASK SA aimed at preventing similar abuses from occurring in the future,” it was announced. NASK is a state research institute supervised by the Ministry of Digitization. The key task of NASK is activities related to ensuring Internet security.
