National mourning is in force throughout the country

Today, there is a national mourning throughout the country, which President Andrzej Duda ordered in connection with the funeral ceremonies of Pope Francis planned for this day. Mourning ends at midnight at night from Saturday to Sunday.

Pursuant to the President's Regulation Andrzej Dudaduring the national mourning, the State Flag of the Republic of Poland is left to the middle of the mast, in particular on buildings or in front of buildings, which constitute official headquarters or the place of the session of the state authorities, other state organs and state organizational units, as well as local government bodies and municipal organizational units.

Public radio and television units, licensed broadcasters and editors of journals and magazines are to take into account the need to celebrate the Pope's memory during national mourning.

During the validity of national mourning, most presidential candidates do not have any campaign activity planned.

Cultural events and sports competitions despite mourning

The organizers of cultural events must decide themselves whether their events will take place or be canceled. Most decided that they would take place.

League matches and other sports events in Poland planned for Saturday will take place as planned. However, they will be preceded by a minute of silence and cut off accompanying events.

The funeral of Pope Francis
