National Security Council. Discussion before NATO Summit

On Monday morning, the National Security Council meeting convened by President Andrzej Duda began. It is taking place before the Polish delegation leaves for Washington for the NATO summit.

The meeting began after 9 a.m. in the Belweder Palace. As the president announced, the National Security Council will be an opportunity to exchange ideas on political issues that will be discussed in Washington.

The meeting is attended by, among others, the Prime Minister Donald TuskDeputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamyszhead of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw SikorskiChief of the General Staff General Wiesław Kukuła, Deputy Speakers of the Sejm Vladimir the Black and Piotr ZgorzelskiMarshal of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońskachairman of the PiS club, former head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczakhead of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Jan Grabiec and head of the Chancellery of the President, Małgorzata Paprocka.

Duda: good cooperation is fundamental

At the beginning, in the public part, the president took the floor. As he said, “Russian aggression against Ukraine plus hybrid pressure from the Belarusian regime, implemented against Poland, the European Union on our eastern border, all this creates a very specific and very difficult atmosphere, not only but above all the security conditions in which we have been operating recently.”

– From this point of view, good cooperation between allies, as well as the implementation of all allied plans, is of fundamental importance – Duda emphasized. He pointed out that the NATO summit will also be devoted to the issue of security in other parts of the world. – Also about the situation in Asia, related to the unrest around China, related to this part of the world, to the actions that have been taken in recent years and months by the North Korean regime – he noted.

The President announced that the Polish side will raise these issues and actively participate in the discussions.

President: I have the same position as the government on security matters

The President thanked the Prime Minister and the ministers for coming to the meeting of the National Security Council held at the Belweder Palace. – We received the government's position prepared for the North Atlantic Alliance summit, we analyzed it in detail with the head of the National Security Bureau, Minister Jacek Siewiera, with experts from the National Security Bureau, also in the context of the policy implemented so far. We share this position. I want to emphasize very strongly: Poland speaks with one voice, the President of the Republic of Poland has the same position on these matters as the government, there is no discrepancy here – said Duda.

NATO Summit in Washington

The NATO jubilee summit in Washington on the 75th anniversary of the Alliance's founding will take place on July 9-11. It will be attended by the leaders of all 32 allied countries and a number of leaders from friendly countries. Poland will be represented by the president Andrzej Dudatogether with him in the Polish delegation will also be Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. The delegation, together with the three leaders, will fly to Washington on Monday afternoon. Earlier, the president is scheduled to meet with the heads of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the summit, NATO leaders will discuss a wide range of problems facing the Alliance and will ensure that NATO remains ready to respond to any challenge. “At the summit in Washington, we will once again demonstrate NATO's unity and strength, supporting Ukraine and ensuring the security of all our people and values,” the NATO Secretary General said earlier Jens StoltenbergOn Friday, Stoltenberg announced that the summit is expected to adopt a key support package for Ukraine, including training, financial and military assistance.

The National Security Council before the NATO summit is not the only meeting between President Duda and the government before his flight to Washington. On Thursday, at the Armed Forces Doctrine and Training Center in Bydgoszcz, the president met with Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and the most important military commanders – including General Commander Gen. Marek Sokołowski and Operational Commander Gen. Maciej Klisz.
