NATO has banned its employees from downloading and installing TikTok on company devices, the American television channel CNN reported. The reason is security concerns.

As reported by CNN on Friday morning, the administration FOR THIS sent a message to its employees in which it announced a ban on having TikTok on company devices. Although due to internal regulations, the application did not appear on the smartphones and tablets of NATO administration employees anyway, the note made the ban official.

Cybersecurity is NATO’s top priority. NATO has high requirements for processing application installation requests. TikTok is not available on NATO devices, a senior NATO official told CNN.

The North Atlantic Alliance is the latest body to ban the Chinese app over fears that authorities China may have access to user data. So far, similar restrictions have appeared on the part of the European Parliament, NorwayEstonia, Great Britain or USA.

The head of TikTok before Congress

Earlier, during a hearing before the US Congress, TikTok CEO Shou Chew emphasized that his company is completely independent of the authorities in Beijing and assured that “there is no evidence that the Chinese government has access to this data; they didn’t ask for it, and we didn’t give it to them.”

He emphasized that the company is moving its data storage centers to the US, where they are to be managed by the American company Oracle. “So the risk would be similar to any government asking a US company for data,” he said.

TikTok has not yet commented on NATO’s decision.
