The North Atlantic Council strongly condemns the prolonged instrumentalisation of illegal migration, artificially created by Belarus as part of hybrid actions against Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, NATO’s most important decision-making body said in a statement on Friday.
“These heartless actions threaten the lives of defenseless people. NATO Allies show solidarity with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and other North Atlantic Alliance countries affected by these actions, and support measures, guided by fundamental values and applicable international law, taken by Alliance members individually and collectively in response to a situation that requires close coordination with key international organizations, “the North Atlantic Council said on Friday, referring to the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border.
Appeal to the authorities in Minsk
“We will remain vigilant regarding further provocations by Belarus at its borders with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. NATO allies are calling on Belarus to stop these activities, to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and to respect international law,” the statement said.
