Nearly half of Poles feel a lack of knowledge in the area of ​​cybersecurity. Report of the Warsaw Banking Institute and the GPW Foundation

We have many examples of customers who allow themselves to be manipulated and deceived, often in a very naive way – said Tadeusz Białek, president of the Polish Bank Association, quoted in the press release. According to a study by the Warsaw Banking Institute and the GPW Foundation, nearly half of Poles feel a lack of knowledge in the area of ​​cybersecurity. In turn, approximately 37 percent of Poles describe their level of knowledge in the field of finance and economics as very or rather low.

The respondents declared that their level of knowledge in the field of finance and economics was very or rather low (37%) or at best average (34%). About 1 in 4 of them positively evaluate their level of financial knowledge.

Poles lack knowledge in the field of cybersecurity

As reported, most Poles feel a lack of knowledge in the area of ​​cybersecurity (47%). Investing (32%), the tax system (25%), credits and loans (21%), insurance (14%) and non-cash payments (8%) are less frequently mentioned.

“In economic education, cybersecurity is one of the areas on which we should place special emphasis. All the more so because Poles want to deepen their knowledge in this area. Despite efforts to warn and educate about the threats related to cybercriminal fraud, also carried out within the Association of Banks, Polish, where there is a unit for combating cybercrime, i.e. the Bank Cybersecurity Center, we have many examples of customers who allow themselves to be manipulated and deceived, often in a very naive way,” said Tadeusz Białek, president of the Polish Bank Association, quoted in the press release.

According to the study, the percentage of people who indicate the need to deepen their knowledge in particular areas is decreasing. In the case of cybersecurity, it is currently 38%. respondents, which means a decrease of 6 percentage points. compared to 2023 and by 16 pp. compared to 2020. In terms of investing, the percentage of declarations about knowledge deficiencies decreased by 13 percentage points. compared to 2023.

The survey results indicate that 55 percent respondents rate their knowledge of the functioning of the Stock Exchange as very or rather small.

“Shares are by far the best-known instrument listed on the WSE (28 percent have heard of them and know exactly what they are). In the case of bonds, this answer is given by 23 percent of respondents. We observe a significantly higher knowledge of all instruments among people with higher education” – wrote in press release.

As stated, the main source of their economic knowledge is that nearly 60 percent respondents indicated blogs and internet portals (59%), followed by the media (36%) and banks (34%).

The study was carried out in February by the INDICATOR Marketing Research Center on a nationwide representative research sample of adult Poles using the CATI method. The measurement error was assumed to be 3%.
