Our priority task is (…) to raise teachers’ salaries as quickly as possible and by 30 percent, I can confirm this – said Andrzej Domański from the Civic Coalition in “Fakty po Faktach”. – I think this agreement deserves wider attention, it is the first such transparent, open agreement that creates a coalition – said Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz from Trzecia Droga about the coalition agreement of the opposition. Referring to the level of detail of its provisions, Tomasz Trela from the New Left said that “it is not possible to break down every program and every postulate into its prime factors.”

On Friday after 12 p.m. the coalition agreement was signed by the chairman of the Civic Platform Donald Tuskhead of Poland 2050 Szymon Hołowniapresident of the Polish People’s Party Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and co-chairmen of the New Left Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń.

The guests of “Fakty po Faktach” were negotiators from the groups that signed the coalition agreement – Andrzej Domański (Civic Coalition), Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz (Trzecia Droga) and Tomasz Trela (New Left).

Domański: Our economy cannot afford for teachers to earn so little

In point 3 of the agreement we read: “The parties to the Coalition confirm the urgent need for pay raises for teachers, public service employees, including administration, courts and prosecutor’s offices. Low wages push people out of the profession who ensure the continuity of our state’s operations and the education of children and youth. We will stop and reverse this process. Appropriate legal acts ensuring the increases will be submitted within the first hundred days of the government.”

– There is no doubt that Poland, including our economy, cannot afford for teachers in Poland to earn so little. That is why it is our priority task and we talked about it with our friends from the Third Way, from the Left, to raise teachers’ salaries as soon as possible and by 30 percent, I can confirm this – commented Andrzej Domański.

– We see 30 percent for teachers as the scale of the raise. These should be increases that will come into effect on January 1, he added. – This absolutely must be included in the budget bill and we will also work on it – he added.

When asked about raises for other budget employees, he replied: – We want raises in the budget sector to be introduced as soon as possible. 20 percent increase for the public sector. This is something we want to move forward with as soon as possible. But here we need to obtain data from the Ministry of Finance. (…) We will not back down from our promises. We have 24 areas that are a signpost for the new government.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz: this agreement deserves wider attention

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz also commented on the issue of pay rises. – What is written in the agreement is valid and it is true that all the groups that form the coalition agree that the professions that constitute the Polish state and have been completely depreciated in recent years are teachers, but this there are employees of the health care system, these are public service employees, these professions need to be valued, she said.

– There is a lot of political will and concerted political will for all these professions to be valued – she added. – When it comes to the Third Way, we did not say 30 percent, but we have great political will to make these increases as high as possible – she added.

She stated that the contract “was negotiated in a very good atmosphere, very concisely.” – I think this agreement deserves wider attention, it is the first such transparent, open agreement, creating a coalition, it has been a demand of Poland 2050 from the beginning, a demand of the Third Way, and we are very satisfied that such a new quality in politics has occurred – she said.

Trela: there is no way to break down every program, every postulate

One of the points of the agreement states: “We will increase the availability of housing. This is one of the main challenges our country faces.” – I will repeat what the Left said during the election campaign. We want apartments for rent to be built. We want them to be built with public funds and we want local governments to do it. And this is reflected in the coalition agreement – said Tomasz Trela in “Fakty po Faktach”.

– I share the view of my previous speakers who talk about certain frameworks and certain directions of development of our country. And that’s what we tried to include in this agreement. There is no way to break down every program and every postulate into its prime factors. Because it would simply be impossible – he added regarding the detailed provisions of the contract.
