Neo-KRS. The Senate elected representatives to the National Council of the Judiciary

Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski were elected by the Senate on Wednesday as members of the National Council of the Judiciary. The winning candidacies for the neo-National Council of the Judiciary were submitted by senators representing the Senate Pact.

On Wednesday evening, the Senate appointed senators Krzysztof Kwiatkowski (independent) and Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski (Trzecia Droga) to the neo-KRS membership.

Krzysztof Kwiatkowski is a senator of the 7th, 10th and 11th terms and a member of the Sejm of the 7th term. He was the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, and in 2013-19 the president of the Supreme Audit Office, he sat on the National Council of the Judiciary in 2007-2013 and in the neo-KRS in 2019-2023.

Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski is a senator of the 10th and 11th terms and a member of the Sejm of the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th terms. Three-time Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2000-2001, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. He was a deputy speaker of the Sejm of the 4th term.

The winning candidacies were submitted by senators representing the Senate Pact

The candidacies of Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski were submitted by a group of senators representing the Senate Pact. Law and Justice however, it reported Rafał Ambrozik, a lawyer and local government official, and Stanisław Gogacz – former deputy marshal of the Lublin Voivodeship and former chairman of the Polish Reconstruction Movement.

The Senate elects two members of the National Council of the Judiciary from among senators for 4 years, adopting a resolution by an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half of the statutory number of senators. Conclusions in the case choice members of the National Council of the Judiciary may be nominated by a group of at least 7 senators. Each senator can support at most two candidates. The application must be accompanied by data about the candidate, his or her consent to stand as a candidate, information about submitting a lustration declaration and a justification taking into account the criteria arising from the relevant acts.

Marshal Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska established that applications regarding the election of senators to the neo-KRS could be submitted to it in the period November 15-29, 2023. Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and Bogdan Zdrojewski, elected by the Senate of the 10th term, held their positions until the election of new members.
