The brother of the Dutch woman, who disappeared in 1994, after 27 years, accidentally saw her photo on the police website, among the images of deceased people of unknown identity. The case is covered by local media.
Journalists Dutch Algemeen Dagblad newspapers reported the case of a man who, 27 years after his sister’s disappearance, accidentally saw her photo on the police’s website, in the unidentified people section.
When the 45-year-old Dutch girl went missing in January 1994, the family searched for her unsuccessfully. Police in the capital city nine months later, in September, found the body of an unidentified woman in a sewer in Amsterdam. Her identity could not be established until last month.
Dutch woman identified thanks to the police website
In 2020, information about the woman was posted on the website of the Dutch police. According to “AD”, the missing woman’s brother came across them by accident in July 2021. “He contacted his other sister and thanks to DNA testing it was possible to establish that it was their missing sister” – it was explained.
“We are seeing more and more people coming to our website and we are regularly getting tips on unknown deaths,” Amsterdam Police Detective Carina van Leeuwen told the newspaper.
Amsterdam police said it was the fortieth time a deceased had been identified in the city within ten years.
