Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) canceled classes on Monday and Tuesday after falling victim to a cyber attack. The authorities of the Dutch university inform about the investigation into the attack. So far, it has not been determined who was behind it.

The cyberattack on the university in Eindhoven was detected late on Saturday evening. As a precaution, TU/e ​​has disabled its network, preventing students, faculty and staff from accessing email, Wi-Fi and online platforms, the NL Times reported on Monday. Due to the cyberattack, the university initially canceled classes on Monday.

The university responds to a cyber attack

A press release published on the university's website on Monday stated that network restoration work would not be completed that day, and therefore educational activities scheduled for Tuesday were canceled. At 4 p.m., the TU/e ​​authorities planned to provide further information in connection with the cyberattack.

“Our cybersecurity experts are working hard to keep the TU/e ​​network safe and accessible again as quickly as possible,” the press release reads. – We are working methodically with all our strength to restore the security of the TU/e ​​network and ultimately bring it back online – assured Patrick Groothuis, a representative of the university, quoted in the release.

Cyber ​​attack investigation

So far, it has not been determined who is behind the cyberattack. There was also no evidence that university data had been stolen. “However, the investigation is ongoing,” we read on the university's website. “Currently, it is very quiet on TU/e, most students have decided not to come to campus,” the statement emphasized.
