Iga Świątek has not yet announced the name of the new head coach. Today he is preparing for the WTA Finals tournament, which will start on November 2 in Riyadh. She is helped in training by, among others: sparring partner Tomasz Moczek and captain of the Polish national team in the Billie Jean King Cup Dawid Celt.

Watch the video Christmas without a coach! She said goodbye to Wiktorowski

Tomasz Wiktorowski no longer cooperates with the tennis player. She said it was the result of their joint decision. Indian tennis journalist Musab Abid is a bit surprised by the separation between Świątek and Wiktorowski. – Mainly because their results were still at a high level. I believe that Iga maximized her sporting potential under Wiktorowski's tutelage, and her relative lack of success on hard and grass courts at Grand Slams – her results in these conditions were still quite good when considered in isolation – were largely due to specificity of the style of play, and not due to deficiencies in training – indicates a representative of the popular Sportskeeda portal in an interview with Sport.pl.

Of her five Grand Slam titles, the Pole won four on clay in Paris (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024), and one in New York two years ago. So far, she has gone farthest at the Australian Open, reaching the semi-finals (2022), and at Wimbledon, the quarter-finals (2023). However, of the 17 WTA titles won in his adult career, most of them concern events played on hard surfaces.

Iga Świątek's greatest success

Our interlocutor appreciates the regularity of Iga Świątek during Tomasz Wiktorowski's term. – In my opinion, this is her greatest achievement. She became a winning machine. They have rarely lost in the early round of any tournament, and this type of consistency week after week must be attributed to their preparation methods.

Iga Świątek has not been eliminated in the first round of the tournament for four years. At this stage, she last said goodbye to a WTA-ranking event in September 2020 in Rome, just before her first win at Roland Garros. In turn, in senior Grand Slam events, she was eliminated so early only once – at Wimbledon 2020. The Pole has practically no “mishaps” against much lower-ranked rivals.

Musab Abid also draws attention to a certain difficulty that our tennis player has recently encountered. – Developed a tendency to occasionally lose confidence when facing a high-ranked/hard-hitting player who was at the top of her game. In particular, Iga's serve lost its strength in such matches, which allowed the opponent to dictate the conditions from the first shot in the rally – says a Sportskeeda journalist. As an example, he mentions the last duel between Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka in the August tournament in Cincinnati, or during the third round of Wimbledon against Yulia Putintseva.

What will the new coach change?

Who will be our tennis player's new coach? The list of names includes, among others: Wim Fissette, Brad Gilbert, David Witt and David Kotyza. Our interlocutor adds two more candidates. – I think it should be a trainer who could help Iga work on her serve and make sure she doesn't fall back into old habits when she's under pressure. At the same time, a coach who focuses on maximizing the athlete's self-confidence would help her avoid the occasional weird defeat where she doesn't seem fully focused. In this context, I think it is worth taking a look at names like Boris Becker or Ivan Lendl.

Becker is a former leader of men's tennis, winning Grand Slam events 11 times. Most recently, he trained Novak Djokovic and then Holger Rune. Lendl is an 18-time Grand Slam champion, also a former number one, who collaborated several times with Andy Murray and later with Alexander Zverev.

The biggest challenge for Tomasz Wiktorowski's successor? – Convince Iga that strong hits from behind the end line are not necessarily the best way to defeat players taller/stronger than her. Greater use of the serve, several approaches to the net, slides, and maybe even flattening the forehand – all this could develop her game so that Sabalenka or Rybakina would not feel comfortable on the court – says our interlocutor.

And he adds: “Changes will not be easy, because Iga Świątek's current style of play gives such good results that it may seem stupid to introduce major modifications. What if this means that she will play worse on clay? However, I think that Iga and her team must “to look further and aim for the status of invincibility on all surfaces. He has a talent for this, so maybe it's worth going in a new direction, even if it means sacrificing a few titles at Roland Garros.”
