These seven cases are the will of the residents expressed by the local municipal councils. They want to be cities, this is documented by social consent – said the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Tomasz Siemoniak, during Monday's press conference when asked about the benefits of obtaining city rights.
In July this year A draft regulation has appeared on the website of the Government Legislation Center, which states that seven towns will be given city status. The regulation was signed in the same month by the Prime Minister Donald Tusk will enter into force on January 1, 2025.

During Monday's press conference, the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak he reminded that in a few days seven new cities will appear on the map of Poland.
– These seven cases, that is Końskowola, Kurów, Wąwolnica, Kazanów, Kobylnica, Sobków and Zaniemyśl, this is the will of the residents. They want to be cities, said the minister.
The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration emphasized that “being cities has its own consequences.” – It is often an element of a certain prestige or history – he added.
– Many cities in Poland during the partitions, after the January Uprising, were deprived of their city status as part of repression, and in recent years several such cities have returned – he explained.

Incentives to connect municipalities
Siemoniak pointed out that there are various incentives to merge communes. – I think that such a discussion will happen to us sooner or later, especially in the obwarzanek communes surrounding the cities. It would be good if they were one organism. However, successive governments have been very consistent in not forcing anyone to do so, he said.
During the conference, he pointed out that “from January 1, the communes of Grabówka and Szczawa, blocked at the last minute by the PiS government, are returning.” – We are also happy about seven new cities, two new communes, we are happy that the government is meeting people's aspirations and their will expressed at the bottom – he concluded.
