During the reunification congress of the New Left on Saturday, Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń became the co-chairmen of the grouping. The New Left presented its program priorities.
During the reunification congress, over 1,100 delegates elected co-chairmen to lead the Democratic Left Alliance and Spring faction. Biedroń received 936 votes, Czarzasty was supported by 887 delegates, and the counter-candidate of the SLD faction leader Piotr Rączkowski obtained 152 votes.
On Saturday, the New Left unveiled its program priorities – including the elimination of the so-called junk contracts, an increase in health care spending to 7.2 percent of GDP, a departure from coal by 2035, restoration of European standards in the judiciary, practical and not ideological education, guaranteeing equality marriage.
Kwaśniewski with red lines
The former president was among the guests of the congress Aleksander Kwasniewski. – I hope that Polish women and men will be able to confidently vote for the wise, credible, competent, European, well-organized and responsible Left in the future, he said.
Kwaśniewski also referred to press publications that suggested that the Left wants to tie its future with PiS. – I think that your congress must send out a clear, firm message that there are impassable red lines and that these red lines concern PiS in the first place – he said.
