Since Saturday, large energy companies are required to offer so-called dynamic tariffs. As Magdalena Dąbrowska, spokeswoman for the Energy Regulatory Office, explains to the business editorial office of tvn24.pl, in their case “the price of energy will change along with price fluctuations on the Polish Power Exchange”. This is therefore an alternative to the currently available tariffs with a fixed rate for electricity.

Dynamic tariffs for households are to be launched on August 24 this year. The obligation to offer them to larger electricity sellers was imposed by last year's amendment to the energy law. Until now, this form of electricity settlement was available only to entrepreneurs.

– A dynamic price agreement should be available in the offer of every electricity seller serving at least 200,000 end users – explains Magdalena Dąbrowska, spokeswoman for the Energy Regulatory Office, in response to questions from the business editorial office of tvn24.pl.

In Poland, this obligation applies to the five largest energy sellers: PGE, Tauron, Energa, Enea and E.ON.

– The electricity sales contract with a dynamic price is an agreement in which energy price will change with price fluctuations on the Polish Power Exchange (TGE), explains Dąbrowska. She adds that in the “offer with a dynamic price, the price for each hour is set by the market on an ongoing basis. It can also be checked a day in advance on TGE, on the so-called Day-Ahead Market”.

As the URE spokeswoman adds, “electricity sellers have a statutory obligation to inform customers about the benefits and risks associated with choosing a dynamic tariff.”

Who is eligible for the dynamic tariff?

The URE spokeswoman explains that this solution “is aimed primarily at recipients who have knowledge about the principles of energy market operation, are aware of the variability of energy prices on TGE, know their consumption profile and are able to manage their own electricity consumption.”

– This applies, for example, to customers who can shift the highest energy consumption to the time of day when it is cheapest, for example in the morning – he explains.

Dąbrowska also notes that “the condition for access to the offer with a dynamic tariff is to have a remote reading meter”.

Moreover, as the spokeswoman reminds, concluding a contract with a dynamic price means giving up the protection in the form of a maximum price of PLN 500/MWh net, which is applicable to households until December 31, 2024.
