More than 267,000 homes and businesses were without power in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut, among others, PowerOutage.us reported.

In Pittsfield, Massachusetts, about 120 miles (200 km) west of Boston, police have appealed to motorists to do the law enforcement a favor and hold off before driving if possible. “We have downed wires everywhere. We have fallen trees everywhere and it won’t get better,” the police department said on Facebook.

On Tuesday, Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Worcester, Massachusetts, shovels for salt and snow were disappearing from the shelves. Customers showed up as more than 10 centimeters of snow had fallen in the city by noon, and it wasn’t going to stop. Store manager Joshua Rivera, 21, said he only had a few shovels and six snowblowers left in stock after this morning.

A state of emergency has been declared

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 37 counties on Monday evening. She urged residents to “stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel to allow snow removal crews to do their jobs.”

“Today is the day to prepare,” she said. – Do whatever you have to do. Stock up on groceries, batteries, chargers. Make sure you have everything you need, including extra lights, because this storm will cause power outages. I am stating a fact, there will be breaks for sure.

Hochul warned not to take the storm lightly and avoid going out on Tuesday and Wednesday. As she assured, the state authorities will do everything to ensure the safety of residents, but everything depends on the serious treatment of the warnings. “People in the northern part of the state often take the situation lightly and say, ‘It’s just another snowstorm, I’ve been through more than one. In this case, however, I want to warn people – this one can be fatal.

Early warning of danger is to prevent a repeat of the dangerous situation from December. A heavy snowstorm swept over Buffalo, New York over the holiday season, killing at least 47 people in the area.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in five counties, and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont activated the state’s emergency management center on Tuesday morning to monitor the storm.

Maine Governor Janet Mills ordered state offices closed on Tuesday. She also encouraged the state’s residents to give up travel, and if they must leave home – to drive safely and prudently. – Provide plenty of space for road services and rescuers who will work hard to ensure our safety – she appealed.
