Newgarden overcomes qualifying crash to guide ultimate observe

Arrow McLaren’s Felix Rosenqvist led the opening 10 minutes of the session however light down the operating order to eleventh on the checkered flag.

The Meyer Shank Racing pairing of Helio Castroneves and rookie Tom Blomqvist have been twelfth and thirteenth, respectively. Arrow McLaren’s Alexander Rossi was 14th and Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Marcus Armstrong was fifteenth.

With roughly 10 minutes remaining within the session, Ericsson was handed a drive-thru penalty by IndyCar officers for “failure to observe the route of IndyCar” after blowing by way of Flip 1 and going into the run-off space of the chicane earlier than straight rejoining the monitor, reasonably than its convoluted rejoin path by way of a sequence of bollards.
