On Saturday afternoon, a forest fire broke out in the Niechanowo commune (Wielkopolska Province). – The fire has affected approximately 20 hectares, 18 fire brigades are working – said junior brigadier Ćukasz Michalak, deputy district commander of the State Fire Service in Gniezno, at around 6 p.m. He said that extinguishing the fire could last until late evening.
Firefighters were alerted around 1 p.m.
– After 1 p.m., the control center of the District Commander of the State Fire Service in Gniezno received information about a forest fire between the towns of Ć»ydowo and Cielimowo. Initially, six teams were dispatched to the scene, but unfortunately the fire spread. At the moment, 18 teams of the State Fire Service and the Volunteer Fire Service are operating – informed junior brigadier Ćukasz Michalak, deputy district commander of the State Fire Service in Gniezno, at about 6 p.m.
– We are talking about an area of ââabout 20 hectares, most of which is burnt. Typical fire weather, great drought in the forests, high temperature, low humidity – he added. He estimated that extinguishing the fire could last until late evening.
Michalak also said that a Dromader firefighting plane was also used in the firefighting operation. It was previously reported that the fire had affected about five hectares.
Movement restrictions
Earlier, at around 3 p.m., Kamila KozĆowska from the Gniezno Fire Department press team reported that the flames were not approaching any towns for now. – However, this does not mean that the extinguishing operations do not affect the local residents. There is heavy smoke, and the element is close to one of the county roads. Currently, traffic restrictions have been introduced there – she informed at the time.
