Genetic, dactyloscopic, traseological, mechanoscopy and other tests allowed to identify the suspect of the crime committed in 2001. Teresa K. was then murdered with particular cruelty, and the perpetrator took her purse and a bottle of vodka from the shop she ran.

The indictment against Marek T. has been filed with the District Court in Tarnów. The prosecutor’s office accuses him of murder with particular cruelty. The man was arrested in 2022 thanks to the findings of police officers from the Lesser Poland X-Files.

According to the spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Tarnów, Mieczysław Sienicki, a 39-year-old resident of the Tarnów district, was accused of committing murders with particular cruelty of 35-year-old saleswoman Teresa K., in connection with robbery and as a result of a motivation deserving particular condemnation, as well as abuse of a family member. The crime took place in Niedomice near Tarnów.

– The collected evidence, including witness testimonies, opinions in the field of genetics, dactyloscopy, traseology, psychology, mechanoscopy, forensic medicine, allowed to reconstruct the possible course of the event and determine the perpetrator – the spokesman pointed out.

According to him, the investigation elimination tests, consisting in collecting material and conducting DNA tests from selected persons in order to narrow down the circle of suspects. In total, samples were taken from 672 people, including nearly five hundred people for the elimination tests conducted in 2021-2022. Genetic tests conducted in September 2022 led to the identification of the perpetrator.

Marek T. is in prison for robbery

According to the investigators’ findings, on January 23, 2001, 35-year-old Teresa K. worked the second shift in a grocery store in a town near Tarnów. A few minutes before closing, 17-year-old Marek T. came to the store, who, after making some small purchases, returned to it again and gave the saleswoman several dozen blows with a sharp tool and a second, blunt-edged one, which resulted in damage to, among others, the larynx, trachea, common carotid artery, pleural cavities and lungs, fracture of the skull base, leading to her death as a result of bleeding. The man stole a purse containing personal items, money and bottles of vodka, and then fled.

As reported in September last year Sebastian Gleń, spokesman for the Małopolska police, in the investigation conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Tarnów, genetic tests performed by the Institute of Forensic Expertise in Krakow turned out to be crucial.

According to him, the opinion issued by the Institute found the genetic profile of the 39-year-old resident of the Tarnów district to be consistent with the DNA trace left by the killer. At the time of the crime, he was 17 years old and a student of a vocational school. His victim was a 35-year-old saleswoman from Niedomice near Tarnów.

According to the police officer, the suspect has been serving a prison sentence for more than two years. for robbery. He was supposed to leave the prison in October last year. Since September, the man has been temporarily arrested.

He confessed during the first interrogations

A spokesman for the Tarnów prosecutor’s office said that during the first interrogations, Marek T. partially confessed to committing the act he was accused of, while during the subsequent interrogations he did not admit to it.

According to him, a team of expert psychiatrists and other specialists and a psychologist, after the tests, found some irregularities in the suspect, which, however, did not result in excluding or significantly reducing his sanity.
