Four chess pieces – three knights and a pawn – have disappeared from a large chessboard in Niepołomice near Kraków. The robbery was recorded by a surveillance camera, according to police. As it turned out, three men aged 18, 19 and 20 were supposed to decorate their apartments with chess horses, and throw away the pawn.

An unusual theft took place on the night of November 25 last year in one of the parks in Niepołomice (Małopolskie Voivodeship). Three knights and one pawn have disappeared from the large chessboard in Błonia in Niepołomice.

The case was reported to the police at the end of the year. The value of the losses was estimated at three thousand zlotys.

Police: three friends took the figures to their apartments

Police in Niepołomice have launched a search for the perpetrators of the theft, the police said in a statement. Among other things, municipal monitoring has been secured.

– Thanks to the excellent quality of the secured recordings, it was possible to identify three perpetrators of this theft, as it turned out, the inhabitants of Krakow. The perpetrators have been detained – said on Friday (January 27) junior inspector Sebastian Gleń, press officer of the Lesser Poland police.

The arrested men are aged 18, 19 and 20. All have admitted to the theft and have already been charged with theft. – As they claimed, they stole the figures because they liked them and each of them wanted to have such a “horse” in their room.
