The auditors presented a number of allegations regarding the manner in which the minister provided grants. According to the Supreme Audit Office, the lack of sufficient supervision resulted in the creation of “corruption-generating mechanisms” and cases of conflicts of interest. As calculated by the auditors, the total value of “funds disbursed in violation of the regulations, unintentionally, wastefully or unreliably amounted to over PLN 280 million”.

“Indirect help for victims of crime is equipping firefighters”

When asked by a TVN24 journalist for the amount of PLN 280 million “spent in violation of the regulations”, he stated that “it mainly includes expenses for Volunteer Fire Brigades, for life and health equipment and for hospitals”.

– This is questioned by the Supreme Audit Office and we reject it. We believe that indirect help for victims of crime is equipping volunteer firefighters with equipment and hospitals with equipment that is to save the lives of people who are victims of traffic accidents or other crimes – said the deputy minister.

He argued that “these are not arbitrary actions”. – Each time their basis is – when it comes to the Volunteer Fire Brigades – the opinion of the poviat commander of the State Fire Service, and when it comes to hospitals – the opinions of provincial doctors and specialists – he said.
