The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zamość (Lubelskie Voivodeship) filed an indictment against the 50-year-old hunter Dariusz S., who is suspected of unintentionally causing the death of a 64-year-old while hunting. According to reports, he was shot in the head while sitting in the back seat of the car.

As PAP learned, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zamość filed an indictment with the District Court in Krasnystaw in the case of the fatal shooting of a 64-year-old man in August last year. while hunting in Piaski Szlacheckie.

“Dariusz S., a 50-year-old hunter, was accused of involuntary manslaughter as a result of violating the rules of caution in handling hunting firearms in such a way that he transported them in a car loaded with a cartridge and unlocked” – explained the spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zamość, Anna Rębacz.

He wasn’t careful

According to the findings of the investigators, four men participated in the incident: the accused together with a friend from the same hunting club, who invited two of his friends to go hunting. During the trip, they wanted to check the thermal imaging camera they had purchased for him. Initially, the vehicle was driven – as the only sober one – by the accused Dariusz S., and the front passenger seat was occupied by the second hunter, while his friends were sitting on the back sofa.

“Then, near the forest, the accused switched places with his colleague and moved to the front passenger seat, which enabled him to observe the game in the field through a thermal imaging camera while driving. on the back sofa of the injured 64-year-old” – described the spokeswoman.

When Dariusz S. noticed a fox in the field, he ordered the driver to stop the vehicle. It was dark, and no lights were on inside the vehicle. The gun shot occurred as he got out of the car and was taking out an unsafe, ready-to-fire gun.

“Without due care, he pressed the trigger, inadvertently firing and shooting one of the passengers. He caused the victim a gunshot wound to the head resulting in his death” – explained prosecutor Anna Rębacz.

She added that hunters were excluded from the hunting association.

Allegations against Dariusz S.

The prosecutor’s office presented the defendant with three other charges, concerning inciting one of the witnesses to give false testimony, assisting a drunk driver in driving a car by making the vehicle available to him, and aiding the driving, which was supposed to cover the tracks in order to avoid criminal liability by the drunk driver.

During the last interrogation in the prosecutor’s office as a suspect, Dariusz S. admitted only to involuntary manslaughter and refused to give explanations. He was subject to police supervision and a property surety.

He is facing up to 8 years in prison for the charges against him.
