In a statement released by North Korea's official KCNA news agency, Vice Defense Minister Kim Kang-il said Pyongyang had given the South Koreans complete experience how “disgusting and time-consuming it is to collect scattered waste paper.”

North Korea suspends shipment of garbage balloons

As written in the KCNA dispatch, the activities carried out from Tuesday to Sunday will remain temporarily suspendedbecause they were solely a response to the sending of propaganda leaflets by South Korean activists.

Kim threatened that if South Korea sends such leaflets again, Pyongyang will respond with transfer balloons “100 times more garbage” than propaganda brochures.

On Monday morning, the Yonhap agency, cited by Reuters, reported that South Korea suspends the military agreement signed with North Korea in 2018, which aimed to ease tensions. This is a reaction to the thousands of balloons that were sent to the South during the week.

The military in Seoul announced last week that balloons containing garbage were being sent to South Korea.

The detection was then reported over 150 objects. Photos published by the army appeared in the media, showing plastic bags lifted by giant balloons – most of them had already fallen to the ground.

Another incident occurred on Saturday evening. As reported by the army, this time North Korea she sent about 600 balloons with bags full of garbage. The bags contained, among others: cigarette butts, paper and plastic bags – the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement quoted by Yonhap news agency.

Local authorities appealed to residents to do not approach the balloons.
