A person has been arrested in reference to actions of the New IRA after an explosive machine was discovered close to a younger mum’s automobile.

The 21-year-old was arrested by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland in Derry final night time.

He was taken into custody in relation to the tried homicide of a part-time policewoman.

Police mentioned a “viable explosive machine” was found close to the younger mum’s automobile on Ballyquin Highway, Dungiven, on 19 April.

The person has been taken to the Critical Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

A police assertion mentioned: “Detectives from the Police Service of Northern lreland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit, assisted by District colleagues, have arrested a 21-year-old man in Derry/Londonderry final night time, Sunday 26 September, in reference to the actions of the brand new IRA”.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Hamlin of the Terrorism Investigation Unit mentioned: “The person has been arrested below the Terrorism Act in reference to the tried homicide of a feminine member of police employees, who can also be a part-time police officer, following the invention of a viable explosive machine beside the younger mom’s automobile on the Ballyquin Highway, Dungiven on Monday nineteenth April”.

Officers mentioned on the time {that a} “viable cylinder-type machine” had been made protected throughout a prolonged safety operation.

In April, Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill described the assault as “shocking and deplorable“.

She added: “These behind this reckless assault have completely nothing to supply society and have proven a callous disregard for your complete group.

“They search to tug our communities backwards, they don’t have any place in our society and will disband.”

In 2019, the New IRA detonated a bomb in a car outside Londonderry Courthouse, shot {dead} journalist Lyra McKee and attempted to kill police officers in booby-trap bomb attacks.
