Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested on Sunday evening in connection with an attack on a young woman, and media reports also reportedly destroyed property. The Norwegian has since been released and is said to be staying at an estate in Asker with his mother.

Oslo police arrested Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, on Sunday evening. The 27-year-old allegedly took part in a serious argument that day, during which he allegedly attacked a woman in her twenties “physically and psychologically”. She was later diagnosed with concussion, the newspaper “Se og Hør” reports. The Dagbladet portal adds that the Norwegian is also suspected of destroying property, but does not provide any details.

Høiby's stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon, told local media that “the matter is serious.” However, in response to questions from the press, the heir to the Norwegian throne said that “it would not be appropriate for me to comment now” on the events involving his stepson. According to media reports, he was released from custody after spending about 30 hours there and is currently staying at the royal estate in Asker, a town about 35 kilometers from Oslo.

At the Asker residence, Høiby is to stay with her mother, Princess Mette-Marit. As the media recall, she was to travel to Paris with Prince Haakon on Tuesday to support the Norwegian Olympians. Ultimately, however, she changed her plans, and the heir to the throne appeared in the stands at the Olympic Games alone. “The Princess has temporarily postponed her departure and hopes to be able to join (her husband) later,” her spokesman said, as quoted by “The Telegraph.”

Princess Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, when Marius Borg Høiby was three. The wedding caused a lot of controversy in the country because of the crown prince's “turbulent past,” including a former partner who was convicted of drug trafficking. In addition to Høiby, the couple has two other children: 20-year-old Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and 18-year-old Prince Sverre Magnus.
