The court arrested a 34-year-old suspected of causing a fatal accident and failing to provide assistance to a passenger, who was his father. According to the Mazovian police, the man has been banned from driving for life.
On Tuesday evening, the officer on duty at the Ostrów Mazowiecka police station received a report of an accident near Nowa Grabownica. Police officers, firefighters and paramedics went to the scene.
Driver fled the scene of the accident, passenger died
“When the services arrived, it turned out that only a 67-year-old passenger of the car was there. The man was taken to hospital. The driver fled the scene of the accident. The police officers documented the course of the incident, secured traces, identified the owner of the car and identified the person who was driving it” – asp. Marzena Laczkowska from the District Police Headquarters in Ostrów Mazowiecka.
On Wednesday morning, the officer on duty at the Ostrów police station received information from the hospital about the death of the 67-year-old. “Ostrów police officers from the criminal division arrested the 34-year-old – the son of the deceased – on the same day. After being transported to the Ostrów police station, the man was tested for sobriety. He had over a per mille of alcohol in his system,” Laczkowska said.
He will be held responsible for the accident and failure to provide assistance.
On Friday, the 34-year-old was charged in a prosecutor's office with causing an accident resulting in death and failing to provide assistance.
The prosecutor requested temporary arrest, which the court agreed to. The suspect will spend the next two months in custody. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
