At night, there was an emergency stop of the Intercity train on the Opole-Wrocław route. The driver reported a fault and lost consciousness a moment later. Despite resuscitation, the 67-year-old could not be saved.

The incident occurred on Sunday after midnight near Nowa Jamka near Opole. The officer on duty received information about the cardiac arrest of the driver who was driving a passenger train on the Opole-Wrocław route. About 130 people traveled on it.

– The train manager notified the service. Employees attempted resuscitation, but the driver could not be saved. The doctor pronounced him dead. The man was 67 years old – informed the junior asp. Ewelina Karpińska from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Opole.

– By decision of the prosecutor's office, the body was secured for autopsy. The police are conducting activities to determine the exact circumstances of this incident, the policewoman added.

The train manager performed CPR

According to the carrier, the train stopped a moment earlier due to a fault.

– The driver stopped the train due to a fault and lost contact with him during the repair. When the train manager went to the driver's cab to check what was happening, the man was unconscious. She started CPR and called an ambulance. Unfortunately, the driver died. At the moment, we do not know the causes of his death, reported Marta Ziemska from the press office PKP Intercity.

A new squad was put in place

A replacement train was provided for passengers. – A replacement train was placed on the track next to it. Passengers had to wait until a new conductor team and a replacement driver arrived, and then they continued to Wrocław, Ziemska added.

Serious events, accidents and incidents in rail transport are investigated by the State Railway Accident Investigation Commission.
