A 19-year-old woman faces up to eight years in prison for causing an accident on the A2 motorway in Nowowawy Dolne (Łódź Voivodeship) in early January, in which two people died – a 20-year-old man and a passenger a year younger than her. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Brzeziny brought charges against the woman. – During the interrogation, she pleaded not guilty and refused to provide explanations – informs the spokesman of the district prosecutor’s office in Łódź. It is possible that an indictment in this case will be brought to court this month.
The incident occurred on January 7 on the A2 motorway in Nowowawy Dolne in the Brzeziny poviat, on the road towards Poznań.
As the police reported at the time, “a 19-year-old female resident of Toruń, the driver of a BMW, lost control of the vehicle during an overtaking maneuver and caused a collision with a Mercedes car driven by a 43-year-old man. As a result of the accident, the 20-year-old passenger of the BMW died on the spot. After an investigation lasting many months, the district prosecutor’s office in Brzeziny brought charges against a 19-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a BMW. – Taking into account all the findings, the prosecutor charged the 19-year-old with a crime of causing a road accident in which two people died – a 20-year-old man and a woman a year younger than her. They were all driving in a BMW driven by a 19-year-old from Warsaw. The evidence collected in the case indicates that the suspect did not exceed the speed limit, but lost control of the steering wheel, veered sharply to the right side of the A2 motorway and rolled over. There was very serious damage to the vehicle. And above all, until the death of her close friends – says Krzysztof Kopania, spokesman for the Łódź district prosecutor’s office. He adds: – During the interrogation, the suspect did not confess to the allegations and refused to provide explanations. She faces up to eight years in prison.
