Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. Two Warsaw residents pretended to be National Labor Inspectorate inspectors and extorted money from farmers

Two residents of Warsaw pretended to be employees of the National Labor Inspectorate and deceived a farmer from the Zakrzyczym commune, who gave them money – informs the Warsaw Police Headquarters. A few days earlier, a farmer from the Płońsk district was defrauded in similar circumstances. The suspects are 55 and 57 years old and have been temporarily arrested. The older man faces up to eight years in prison, while the younger man was a recidivist, so he could be imprisoned for up to 12 years.

The men were detained by policemen from Zakrętm and Nowy Dwór. “As determined by the uniformed officers, a 57-year-old man and a 55-year-old man from Warsaw, acting together and in concert, in order to obtain financial benefits, led to unfavorable disposal of their own property by a farmer from the Zakrętym commune,” says the Warsaw Police Headquarters in a press release. The officers add that one of the detained men had defrauded a farmer from the Płońsk district in a very similar way a few days earlier.

Fee for “official activities”

The police say that the fraudsters misled a farmer from the Zakrętym commune by claiming that they were employees of the National Labor Inspectorate. “Then, acting under the pretext of undertaking official duties, they demanded money from the farmer. The injured party gave the fraudsters cash,” reports KSP.

The farmer alerted the police shortly thereafter. The perpetrators were arrested in Zadrożym. At the intersection of provincial road 62 and national road no. 7, a Renault with a 57-year-old man and his 55-year-old friend inside was stopped.

“The injured farmers also reported to the scene and immediately recognized the fraudsters. The officers detained two residents of Warsaw, who were taken to police cells. Then, charges were brought against them,” we read in the police statement.

Charges and arrest

The District Prosecutor's Office in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki submitted a request to the court for the temporary arrest of the suspects. The Nowy Dwór court agreed to the request and imposed three-month arrest on the men. The 57-year-old faces a sentence of up to 8 years in prison. The 55-year-old faces up to 12 years because he acted as a recidivist. Therefore, the upper limit of the penalty may be increased by half.

The police warn against fraudsters and appeal for vigilance. “In case of the slightest doubts and suspicions, please verify the information by contacting or calling the Police. This way we can protect our savings and not become a victim of fraudsters!” – emphasizes the police.

At the same time, the officers are asking other farmers to contact them who were deceived by people pretending to be employees of the National Labor Inspectorate.
