The work of a special commission that was supposed to explain why the ambulance dispatcher refused to send an ambulance to a three-year-old girl has ended. The child's mother took the child herself to the hospital in Nowy Tomyśl (Greater Poland Voivodeship). Unfortunately, the child could not be saved. According to the commission, the reason for not sending the ambulance was the dispatcher's “lack of diligence in collecting medical history.”
A dozen or so days ago (November 6), near Grodzisk Wielkopolski, a family was poisoned by fumes from a rodent preparation. Pills with poison were placed outside the house, among others. in different slots. Three people were taken to the hospital in Nowy Tomyśl: a pregnant woman, her 7-year-old daughter and her 3-year-old daughter. The youngest girl died.
The ambulance was not sent and the child died
After the child's death, local media reported the tragic circumstances of the event. They showed that the mother, concerned about the 3-year-old's health, tried to call an ambulance. However, the dispatcher refused to send an ambulance. Due to this refusal, the girl's mother took her to the hospital herself. When they arrived, the baby no longer showed any signs of life. Resuscitation was performed there, but it did not bring any results.
– Unfortunately, an ambulance with a medical rescue team was not dispatched to the scene of the incident – said Mateusz Mucha, spokesman for the Voivode of Greater Poland, and informed about the appointment of a special commission whose task was to determine why the ambulance was refused.
Results of the committee's work
On Monday, the provincial office announced the results of the commission's work.
The team included: the director of the Health Department, the director of the Emergency Notification Department and the head of the Legal Department of the Greater Poland Voivodeship Office.
After analyzing the situation, in the team's opinion, “the medical dispatcher did not fully comply with the algorithm for collecting medical history regarding the reason for the call: Other/unwell.” Moreover, “the medical dispatcher's decision not to dispatch the EMS should be considered inappropriate due to the lack of diligence in collecting the medical history. The information obtained was not sufficient to make the decision to dispatch or not to dispatch the EMS.”
In the commission's opinion, “at this stage it is not possible to say whether it would have been possible to save the child if the EMS had been dispatched and arrived in the shortest possible time.”
