The nuclear power plant in Poland is to become the only significant energy source in the coming decades. – The decision on the construction has already been made, and next year a decision will be made on the choice of technology to be used – said Piotr Naimski on Thursday. The government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure also referred to the suggestion that the issue of the TVN license may affect the US administration’s decisions on energy issues.
– The decision to build a nuclear power plant has been made, it is in the government’s program last year, and as for the choice of technology, the decision will be made next year, in September or October. Until then, a draft proposal for Poland will be prepared, which is being developed by the American side – said Piotr Naimski, government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure at Polish Radio 24.pl.
Nuclear power plant in Poland – a project of American companies
He noted that American companies obtained funding to develop these proposals from a US government agency. He also added that Poland does not only want to buy nuclear technology.
– We will be building these power plants for a dozen or so years, six reactors are to be built so that in the 1940s approx. 20-25 percent electricity came from nuclear reactors. We will be using these power plants for 60 years, maybe more. We want to have a partner who will build and operate it, who will be involved financially and investingly – said Piotr Naimski.
He also referred to the suggestion that the issue of the TVN license, which is currently being criticized by the Americans, may influence the US administration’s decisions on energy issues.
– I have not come across such suggestions, we are in contact with the American government on the nuclear project and cooperation in the field of energy, a visit by the secretary of (USA energy Jennifer – ed.) Granholm in Warsaw is planned. The Polish-American energy dialogue is sustained and continued and I see no threats here, on the contrary, it has very good prospects, ”said the government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure.
Nuclear power plant – competitive offer
Naimski referred to the question of whether there is a possibility for the French to make an offer competitive to the Americans.
– We hear that the French government is considering the option of making a proposal, but we will see what it will look like in the next year – said Piotr Naimski.
