During the “Country and World: Russian Realities 2024” conference in Berlin, the sociologist cited data from a study conducted by Levada Centerin which 11 percent respondents considered the possible use of nuclear weapons to be “definitely justified”, and 28 percent considered “rather justified”. 45 percent respondents chose the answers “rather not” and “definitely not”. The others refused to answer.
During the year, the percentage of opponents of carrying out by Russia nuclear strike decreased from 56 to 52 percent, while the number of supporters increased from 29 to 34 percent – noted the researcher.
– At the same time, a dramatic trend appeared among people of the older generation – from 38 to 28 percent. the percentage of those who firmly claim that there is no moral justification for Russia's use of nuclear weapons has decreased, he added. He did not provide the research methodology or the number of respondents.
Russia needs to export arms products
An expert on Russian defense and foreign policy also spoke at the Berlin conference Paweł Łuzinpublishing, among others, on the investigative journalists' website The Insider. He informed that from 2021 – the last year before Russia started the war in Ukraine – the value of Russian arms exports dropped from $14.6 billion to less than a billion this year, which means that Russia is practically will lose its role as one of the key arms suppliers to the global market.
Luzin added that this is due to the Russian military-industrial complex's focus on ensuring supplies for the needs of the Russian army. He emphasized that he was counting on stabilization or an end to the conflict in order to return to implementation export contracts.
