I went home, I wanted to start cleaning. Everything was dirty, broken, mud everywhere. The wood was swollen, the door couldn't be opened. The shoe cabinet was floating, blocking the entrance – says Jacek. On Saturday he escaped the flood with his family, on Sunday their house flooded. He thought they would be able to return quickly, but on Monday the dam on the Nysa Kłodzka burst.
Anyone who has their kitchen within sight now should take a look at the height of the third drawer from the bottom. That's about 80 centimeters from the floor. “There was so much water in our kitchen,” says Jacek, a resident of Wiosenna Street in Nysa.
We're talking on Monday afternoon.
Before the flood that hit the city on Sunday, he fled with his wife and two small children to friends. Their house is on the exit road to Wrocław. It's still dry here.
Jacek: – But we don't know what will happen.
An hour before our conversation it was reported that the dam at the Topola reservoir on the Nysa Kłodzka near Paczków had burst.
Jacek: – We are ready to run away from the water even further.
Homemade firewall
On Saturday, some residents of Nysa downplayed the flood threat.
Jacek: – We didn't talk about it, we didn't know that the threat was so serious. We thought that if the water came, maybe a little would flow into the garage.
