Daniel Obajtek was to use Orlen's money to pay for the protection of his private properties – according to the findings of the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor's Office regarding abuses in the company. “Gazeta Wyborcza” informs in its Friday edition that it has learned the content of the request to waive the MEP's immunity.

The newspaper reported that the prosecutor's office sent an application to the European Parliament on December 18, 2024. It concerns – as we read – the case of surveillance, ordered by Orlen, of a group of PO politicians: Robert Kropiwnicki, Marek Sowa, Andrzej Halicki, Jan Grabiec, Paweł Poncyliusz and Marcin Kierwiński.

“Orlen's new management found an order for this type of 'detective services' in the company's documentation,” the newspaper reported.

“The contractor of the order was the Gdańsk detective company Invest Protect, headed by Wojciech Koszczyński (as reported by 'Wirtualna Polska' – a former officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation). Koszczyński was personally indicated by Obajtek as the contractor. The detective had been associated with him since 2017. He worked for the Energa concern when Obajtek was the president of this company, and in March 2018, together with Obajtek, he moved to Orlen,” he informs “Wyborcza”.

According to the newspaper, Koszczyński concluded a contract in Orlen for “the provision of security services for Daniel Obajtek.” It cost the company PLN 6 million.

“GW” reports that the scope of security included guarding numerous properties belonging to Obajtek – both their monitoring and personal protection of the president of Orlen on their premises.

Obajtek about the prosecutor's request

During Monday's press conference Daniel Obajtek it referred, among other things, to the announcement of the request to waive his immunity. MEP PIS he was asked whether he would therefore consider “taking refuge” in another country, for example Hungary.

– I am a member of the European Parliament. I move between Brussels, Strasbourg and Poland. I'm not going to comment on something that isn't there. I'm not going to speculate. I'm in Poland, I'm not going anywhere, he said.

Surveillance of politicians

During the press conference, Łukasz Frątczak (“Black and white” TVN24) asked the former head of Orlen: – You said that you did not order the surveillance of politicians. So why was Robert Kropiwnicki (currently Deputy Minister of State Assets – ed.) under surveillance? – asked Łukasz Frątczak.

– He wasn't, said Obajtek.

– Then why was there a report, where were there photos from his meetings, were there photos from his office? Orlen paid PLN 200,000 gross for this report. This was the invoice – said the TVN24 journalist.

– I would like to emphasize to you and TVN that Orlen is not a garage. About 65,000 people work there. people. And you know very well that there is no way I could check politicians, break the law and a dozen or so people signed it, replied Obajtek.

Joint findings by TVN24 and Wirtualna Polska journalists show that Wojciech Koszczyński, a detective from Tricity, visited Daniel Obajtek and other members of the Orlen management board at least 50 times in the last five years. His company signed a contract with the fuel giant for security and detective services and – as journalists found – collected information, among others. about opposition MPs during the PiS government. Łukasz Frątczak and Szymon Jadczak found documents confirming the surveillance of one of them – Robert Kropiwnicki.

Obajtek real estate. “Because I'm allowed”

Further properties went to the Daniel Obajtek family foundation. These are villas and summer houses by the sea – “Newsweek” reported a few days ago. The weekly noted that this may be a way for the former president of Orlen to escape possible claims.

During Monday's press conference, former president of Orlen Daniel Obajtek was asked why he was transferring real estate to his family and foundation. – Because I'm allowed to – replied the current MEP.

– I don't ask Platform politicians, and I never asked you (Prime Minister). Donald) Tuskother ministers, where and to whom they transfer (property – ed.). I have personal culture and I believe that everyone can do whatever they want with their own property, he said.
