Town Hall Campaign
From Saturday, characteristic blue posters can be seen in various places in the capital. Graphics with a symbolic drop are part of the town hall campaign encouraging people to save water.
The campaign “Respect the water” is to encourage the residents of Warsaw to carefully look at their everyday habits. It is about turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, taking a shower instead of bathing in the tub, or using aerators in the taps. Water collected during rainfall can be used to water home gardens or potted plants. According to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, in 2020 the amount of rainfall in Warsaw was 645 liters per square meter per year. This means that about 36,000 liters of water fell on the roof with an area of 70 square meters for a year. Assuming maximum retention, you could collect up to 100 liters of water a day on average.
Graphics with the slogans “Respect the water” will be exhibited for two weeks, incl. in a multimedia gallery at the Świętokrzyska metro station, on Veturilo city bikes, in public transport, on external advertising media and on the Internet.
“Reducing consumption is not only helping nature, but also one of the ways to combat global warming. Providing water to the network and heating it requires energy. Therefore, the less water is used, the less energy will be needed, and therefore less coal or gas. What is important, lower water consumption translates into lower bills for residents “- emphasized the town hall, reassuring residents that there would be no shortage of water in the taps.
Each inhabitant of the capital uses an average of about 130 liters of water per day.
They collect rainwater
Most of the water used in Polish households comes from deep or surface waters. The renewal of these resources is directly related to rainfall. That is why retention and the use of rainwater are so important. “To promote this type of investment, the capital has for years been granting subsidies for the construction of devices for retaining rainwater and snowmelt. Only in 2021, 483 grants were awarded with a total value of PLN 1.7 million. For this amount, almost 940 reservoirs and nearly 100 retention devices were made. – draining “- said the town hall.
Devices using rainwater are also created as part of municipal investments. One example is the newly opened “Park and Ride” PKP Żerań car park, where the rainwater collected by the drainage system does not go directly to the sewage system, but is discharged into the ground throughout the plot through drainage drainage. Retention is also favored by the greening of tram tracks. In the capital, their length is already 27 km.
As part of the civic budget at the district office Will a rainwater collection system was built. Water is used to water the greenery around the building. For two years, the City Cleaning Authority has been using water from municipal swimming pools to clean streets. In 2021, 2.4 million liters of water were saved thanks to water recycling.
